The alcohol is not just a disinfectant but it is a drying agent that will dry your skin out… They always tell you when you get ears pierced to stay way from it because of that.. I would never use it on my face for instance as a skin care product. It would eventually make your face peel and crack. Not to mention it is also flamable…

this site gives several products that are alcohol free products that are appropriate for skin care.

Stearyl alcohol is fatty alcohol used as an emollient and to help keep other ingredients intact in a formulation. See fatty alcohol.
And Fatty alcohol is made from fatty acids; fatty alcohols are used in cosmetics as thickening agents and emollients. They are not drying or irritating forms of alcohol.

Bottom Line: Stearyl alcohol or Cetyl alcohol are standard, benign, waxlike cosmetic thickening agents and are completely nonirritating and safe to use.
